Allicin is an anti-infection drug that can be used to treat deep fungal and bacterial infections. It is used to prevent and treat acute and chronic bacterial dysentery, enteritis, whooping cough, fungal infections of the lungs and digestive tract, candidemia, cryptococcal meningitis, tuberculosis, and more. Pharmacological research has shown that allicin has inhibitory and bactericidal effects on various cocci, Bordetella pertussis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Shigella, Salmonella typhi, paratyphoid bacteria, E. coli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and other pathogens. It also inhibits fungal infections and has inhibitory and killing effects on amoeba, vaginal trichomonas, and pinworms.
